About Cluj-Napoca
Intro: Cluj-Napoca is located in North-western Romania and it use to be the capitol of the historical province of Transylvania. Today, Cluj-Napoca is one of the most important academic, cultural, industrial and business centers in Romania. It hosts the largest university in the country, Babes-Bolyai University. Cluj is also known for its famous botanical garden, state-renowned cultural institutions, as well as being home to the largest Romanian-owned commercial bank, Banca Transilvania. Monocle magazine identified Cluj-Napoca as one of the top five places worldwide that are due to come to international spotlight during 2008. Architecture: If you are into architecture Cluj will surly be interesting for you. Towering church steeples in Gothic and Roman Orthodox Style, statues and buildings with intricate design and sculpture. Just walking around town you will see beautiful architecture nearly every where you look.
Shopping: Cluj has a lot of options for Shopping. There are many little stores around town where you can buy anything from small electronic parts, to musical instruments to art work, you can find almost anything you need. In 2007 after Romania joined the European Union, two western style shopping malls with food courts were built in Cluj. Iulius mall and Polus Center Cluj have public transportation to and from them and offer a lot of fun.
Sports: Cluj currently has the #1 soccer team in Romania. If you like to snow ski, Romania has many very nice mountains you can ski at.
Landscape: Cluj is surrounded by mountains lakes and streams, little villages and open farm land. The rolling hills are striped with the rectangle patches of farm land owned by many people growing many different crops. It is really a beautiful sight to see. Taking a train ride through this beautiful country is full of great sights.
Food: Cluj has a large variety of food. You can have greek food, American restaurant or fast food, Turkish food, Italian, Chinese, Sushi, and almost Mexican. Both malls have Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, and many other options. They also have several coffee shops where you can get some great Romanian cakes and one mall has Starbucks. Don't miss the great Romanian Dishes, sarmale, Mici, mamaliga, and Top it off with Papa Nas!
Population: Cluj-Napoca has a official population of 310,000 people, but because of the many non-residents and students the unofficial population is around 500,000.

Fun: If you are looking for something fun to do, Cluj has 2 bowling alleys, 3 Movie Theaters with single screens, and each one of the malls will soon open there multi screen theater with 10 more screens in cluj!, If the weather is is hot and you would like to go for a swim you can go to one of the 6 pools in Cluj, Iulius mall even has a pool and a physical fitness gym!
Cluj also has more traditional attractions if that suits your taste. We have a Opera House, National Theater, museums, art galleries, Botanical Gardens, and all of it is surrounded with incredible architecture. If you just feel like going for a walk we have a beautiful 180 Year old park in town with its towering trees and lots of park benches.

Transportation: As you roam around town you will always find an abundance of taxies and busses ready to take you anywhere you want to go. If you are looking to travel a little further our expanding International Airport offers easy transportation to many locations around the world! Our International train station can easily take you anywhere you want to go. Their are also International bus lines and daily mini buses going to Budapest and many other national and international locations.
